PINE FLAT, Tulare County — Tulare County filed an October 7, 2026 environmental notice for roadside vegetation work in the Upper Posey area near Pine Flat, a project intended to improve evacuation access in wildfire-prone mountain communities.
The project would treat approximately 3.9 miles of Mountain Road 3, also known as Old Stage Road, and Guhl Avenue between Capinero Drive and Carlin Drive. County Fire Department crews are expected to thin and remove brush, prune trees, chip hazardous vegetation and address dangerous trees within public road rights-of-way.
The county says the work is designed to help protect approximately 317 homes and 982 residents within a very high fire-hazard area. Those figures relate to the broader treatment corridor, not a claim that Pine Flat itself has 982 residents. An environmental filing does not establish that all vegetation removal is complete.
What local residents should know
Residents should watch county road and fire notices for operational dates. Drivers may encounter work crews, and property owners should not undertake clearing outside their own boundaries without confirming applicable permits and land ownership.
